Common Health Issues:

Some of the most common diseases Bearded Corydoras face are -

  1. Ich: This condition occurs due to parasites and can affect a catfish’s health quickly. The most common way to recognize the disease is tiny white specks on the skin. This is why Ich is also called white spot disease. Isolating the affected fish can provide relief.
  2. Red spot disease: Bearded catfish face this condition when a fungus causes red sores on the skin. It is a highly contagious disease and can spread quickly if not taken care of. Use aquarium-safe antifungal or antiparasitic treatments when required to protect the catfishes
  3. Fin rot: This is caused due to bacteria damage. It can make the fish look ragged. Monitor closely to prevent the condition from progressing.
  4. Nitrate poisoning: Cory catfish tend to feel sick when the nitrate levels in the aquarium water rises. Some common symptoms to look out for are catfish not eating, breathing faster than normal, and lying on the bottom of the tank. Always ensure the water conditions are optimum, clean regularly, & monitor closely to prevent this condition from happening.

General health tips:

  1. Keep water clean with weekly partial water changes.
  2. Avoid sharp gravel or décor that may damage barbels.
  3. Maintain stable parameters to reduce stress.
  4. Feed a varied, balanced diet.
  5. Observe fish daily to catch early signs of illness.
