Elegant Corydoras

Elegant Corydoras (Corydoras elegans) is a small, pretty catfish with dark double stripes and a speckled back. It has a slightly flattened body and small whiskers (barbels) that help it search for food. Many hobbyists like it because it is calm, looks interesting, and moves in small groups that are fun to watch.

1. This fish comes from South America’s Upper Amazon basin, including Colombia, Peru, and Brazil.
2. It also lives in places where both plants and roots can be common throughout the flooded forest areas and slow rivers.

Temperament

1. Peaceful, along with social, are Elegant Corys.
2. They have a preference for being with those of their own kind. They usually leave other fish alone.
3. Males can act with some territoriality during the moments preceding spawning.

Compatibility

1. Good tankmates: peaceful livebearers along with tetras, rasboras, other small Corydoras, and small peaceful community fish.
2. Avoid: large or aggressive fish that nip fins or eat small fish. Keep bottom-hungry big species away since they may out-compete Corys for food.
