Elegant Corydoras (Corydoras elegans) is a small, pretty catfish with dark double stripes and a speckled back. It has a slightly flattened body and small whiskers (barbels) that help it search for food. Many hobbyists like it because it is calm, looks interesting, and moves in small groups that are fun to watch.

Elegant Corydoras Origin

  1. This fish comes from South America’s Upper Amazon basin, including Colombia, Peru, and Brazil.
  2. It also lives in places where both plants and roots can be common throughout the flooded forest areas and slow rivers.

Temperament

  1. Peaceful, along with social, are Elegant Corys.
  2. They have a preference for being with those of their own kind. They usually leave other fish alone.
  3. Males can act with some territoriality during the moments preceding spawning.

Compatibility

  1. Good tankmates: peaceful livebearers along with tetras, rasboras, other small Corydoras, and small peaceful community fish.
  2. Avoid: large or aggressive fish that nip fins or eat small fish. Keep bottom-hungry big species away since they may out-compete Corys for food.

Elegant Corydoras Price range

  1. One can expect roughly ₹250 or ₹800 for each Elegant Corydoras in India, which depends on its availability and the seller, since they are not so common there, whether they are captive-bred or imported.

Elegant Corydoras Nutritional Guide

Avg Monthly Expenses

₹80 - ₹ 150

Elegant Corydoras Diet type

  1. Omnivore — they eat small animal foods plus some plant matter.

Suitable foods

  1. Sinking pellets or wafers made for bottom-feeders
  2. Frozen/live foods: bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp (small pieces)
  3. Occasional blanched vegetables (zucchini, peas) are finely chopped
  4. Algae wafers once in a while

Feeding frequency & tips

  1. Feed once or twice a day, small amounts that they can finish in a few minutes.
  2. Use sinking food so it reaches the bottom quickly. Watch that shyer fish get their share — feed in several spots or use a feeding ring. Remove leftover food to keep water clean.
