Introduction to the Peppered Corydoras
Peppered Corydoras (Corydoras paleatus) are well-liked catfish freshwater species that are non-aggressive, spotted, and bottom-dwellers. Black-spotted silver in color, very armoured-like in appearance, the species adds activity and beauty to community aquariums.
Peppered Corydoras are easy to keep, hardy, and peaceful and thus perfect for a beginner aquarist. Peppered Corydoras are bottom-feeders who clean the tank by eating leftover food without being violent or aggressive.
Origin of the Peppered Corydoras
Natives of South America, i.e., Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil's southern part, the Peppered Corydoras live in slow rivers, streams, and flood plains. Their native habitat is shallow water with soft substrates and plenty of vegetation where they take cover and are safe from predators.
Temperament of the Peppered Corydoras
Peppered Corydoras are peaceful, community, and bottom-dwellers.
- They must be kept in a group of 5–10, otherwise as single individuals they become stressed or shy.
- They are not territorial and coexist with most tranquil tankmates.
- They are active throughout the day and night, grazing and socializing incessantly.
Compatibility of the Peppered Corydoras with Other Fish
Harmonious peaceful tankmates that can be kept with them are:
- Tetras (Neon, Rummy-nose, Ember)
- Guppies and Mollies
- Dwarf Gouramis
- Peaceful small Barbs
Do not include aggressive, large, or fin-nipping fish that will harass them.
Price Range of the Peppered Corydoras
Peppered Corydoras are very inexpensive and common, and the price is between ₹150–₹400 ($2–5) per fish depending upon size and number. When purchased in bulk, the price comes down, and thus they are a great choice even for a school fish.
