Introduction to the Perro de Presa Canario

The Perro de Presa Canario, commonly known as the Presa Canario, are native to the Canary Islands and traces its ancestry to the 15th and 16th centuries. This muscular molosser-type breed was created to herd cattle and prevent the loss of livestock, and it is extremely strong, confident, and loyal.

The breed is a cross between the now near-extinct Bardino Majorero and the mastiff-type dogs brought by the Spanish settlers. They nearly became extinct in the 1960s but revived in the 1970s. They were then recognised by Spain’s kennel club in 1989 and the FCI in 2011.
