Hyderabad is set to welcome one of the world’s largest aviaries, planned for development in the Eco Park at Kothwalguda.
This expansive aviary, spanning six acres, will host 10,000 exotic birds from diverse regions, including Australia, Peru, Argentina, New Zealand, the United States, China, Japan, Nicaragua, and Indonesia.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is spearheading the project and aims to provide visitors with a unique opportunity to experience global avian diversity up close.
The HMDA plans to acquire 19 species of exotic birds through a contractor, selected via a tender process.
Among these are vibrant Blue and Gold Macaws (20), Green Wing Macaws (20), Scarlet Macaws (10), and various parrots such as Cockatoos (30) and Amazon Parrots (40).
The collection will also feature popular smaller species like Cockatiels (1,000), Budgies (2,000), Doves (1,000), and Finches (4,000).
Other fascinating additions include Rainbow Lorikeets (500), Quaker Parakeets (200), and even Toucans (20).
Before the birds arrive, HMDA must secure essential clearances, including certifications from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and approvals from veterinary authorities.
Additionally, the winning bidder must adhere to guidelines from India’s Wildlife Division regarding the import and declaration of exotic live species.
Each bird will undergo thorough health screenings to ensure they are free from zoonotic infections, contagious diseases, and parasites.
Once they reach the aviary, veterinary professionals will conduct an initial health check before placing the birds in a quarantine period of 40 days.
Following this, a final health assessment will be conducted before issuing a health certificate. Only then will the birds be introduced to the aviary for public display.
This ambitious project, once completed, promises to become a major attraction in Hyderabad, showcasing rare bird species from across the world and enhancing the Eco Park's appeal for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike.
