What is your story as a dog breeder?

Candy Makz Kennel wasn't always about these gentle giants, though. Back in 2010, we started with playful Pugs and energetic American Bullies. But there's something truly special about Mastiffs! These powerful yet loving breeds captured my heart, and that's when we decided to focus exclusively on breeding Mastiffs.

What challenges have you faced in this journey?

Breeding any dog breed is a big responsibility, and Mastiffs are no exception. Let's be honest, it takes a lot of time and dedication. These big guys require a lot of attention to keep them happy and healthy, which sometimes means putting other things on hold. But the reward? Seeing a Mastiff puppy blossom into a champion and achieve recognition in the show ring! That's a feeling you just can't beat. It's incredibly rewarding for any breeder who pours their heart into these magnificent dogs.

What are the good dog breeding practices that people should follow?

Here at Candy Makz Kennel, ethical breeding practices are paramount. The health of our breeding Mastiffs is our top priority. We would never breed a momma Mastiff every single heat cycle. We believe in a more spaced-out approach, breeding every three cycles or so. This ensures the well-being of the mother dog and allows her plenty of time to recover.

Another crucial aspect is proper pedigree matching. Breeding Mastiffs without proper planning can lead to puppies with health problems. That's not something we want to see! By carefully matching pedigrees, we can help reduce the risk of genetic issues and ensure happy, healthy Mastiff puppies for everyone.

What is your advice for people who are planning to own mastiff dogs?

If you're considering welcoming a Mastiff into your life, let me tell you a few things. These magnificent creatures aren't exactly lapdogs! They need plenty of space to roam and exercise. Cramped apartments just won't do. Mastiffs also thrive on companionship and interaction. Training, socialization, and quality playtime are essential for building a strong bond with your giant friend.
