A well-planted freshwater tank with a dark substrate that mimics their natural habitat is the perfect home for Ember Tetras. A school of six or more fish needs at least 38 liters of space in the tank to allow for swimming. It is advised to keep a school of at least 6 fishes in order to encourage natural behavior and lessen stress, as these little, colorful fish like the company of their own kind. It is recommended to maintain the water temperature between 22 and 28°C (72 and 82°F) by using a moderate filter that generates a slight current. Living plants are vital because they provide hiding places, reduce stress and contribute to the preservation of high-quality water. For more cover, you can also add rocks and driftwood. Water that is between pH 6.0 and 7.5 and has a mild acidity is ideal for Ember Tetra growth.

Nutrition

Avg Monthly Expenses

For Ember Tetras to remain healthy and vibrant, nutrition is essential. Being omnivores, they need a diverse diet that includes both plant-based and high-protein foods. Good quality flake or pellet food designed for small tropical fish can be fed as a main course, supplemented with frozen or live meals like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia to supply vital nutrients and encourage natural foraging habits. Including meals high in vegetables, such as blanched spinach or zucchini, also guarantees a well-balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals. Small, frequent meals are crucial to preventing overeating and preserving their health. Regularly monitoring their feeding behavior and adjusting their diet accordingly helps to support their overall well-being and vibrant coloration.

Ember Tetras, which are well-known for their vivid coloring and calm temperament, do best in aquariums that are kept up and have consistent water conditions. Frequent water changes (10–20% of the tank volume per week) help keep the water very clean and guard against common issues like bacterial infections and fin rot. These tetras prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and a temperature between 22°C to 28°C. Their nutritional needs and general health are supported by providing a diversified diet of premium flake or pellet food supplemented with frozen or live items like brine shrimp or bloodworms. Monitoring their behavior for signs of stress or illness, such as loss of appetite or unusual swimming patterns, allows for prompt intervention if necessary. Before bringing new fish to the main tank, they should first be quarantined to stop the spread of disease. Enough room, hiding places, and a calm atmosphere with matched tank mates all help to lower stress and enhance their wellbeing. To ensure the longevity and vigor of Ember Tetras in captivity, proactive management, appropriate nutrition, and routine observation are crucial.
